House survey quote checklist
Two similar-looking fees can buy different services. Check the scope, surveyor and timetable before choosing.
Why scope matters
RICS survey levels set different expectations, but quotations can also differ in valuation options, access, follow-up support, timing and extras. Ask questions before instruction rather than assuming every provider includes the same work.
Share property-specific concerns
Tell the surveyor about cracking, damp, movement, roof problems, extensions, unusual materials or planned works. A suitable professional can then confirm the service level, explain limitations or recommend a specialist investigation.
Verify the professional
For an RICS Home Survey, check the individual’s designation and the firm’s regulated status. Where a service includes a valuation, RICS says the surveyor should also be an RICS Registered Valuer.
